Do I get the lowest price?
Yes. You always pay the lower of the negotiated price or the pharmacy’s lowest price. There is no guaranteed percentage of savings on prescription purchases. Participating pharmacies have agreed to provide a discount off of the fluctuating national average wholesale price of a given drug. Also pharmacies, compete against each other and may have special prices on some products.
Can I obtain prices over the telephone?
No. You must present your card and prescription to your pharmacist. The information from your membership card will be loaded into the pharmacy’s computer and priced electronically and will be valid only at that time.
Does my doctor need to know about this card when writing my prescription?
This program will not affect your care at all. There are no exclusions or limitations placed on the drugs prescribed by your doctor. However, you should let your doctor know that you are interested in saving money and ask that he or she prescribes a generic drug if available, or the lowest cost drug that will achieve the required result.
What if my pharmacy doesn’t recognize the card or can’t process my discount?
Pharmacists may not be familiar with every prescription program in which they participate. If you encounter a problem at the pharmacy, show your pharmacist this brochure.
The pharmacist said my card will not help me save money.
This card helps members save more about 90 percent of the time. In about 1 out of 10 instances the pharmacy’s sale price will be lower–meaning the card will not offer you additional savings. Either way, you can be certain you are always paying the lowest price.
What if I already have a plan or card which covers my prescription drugs?
Your card may help you save on drugs that are not covered by your health plan or when you exceed your plan’s maximum amount of drug coverage. If your prescriptions are already being paid in full or in part by your health plan, you will still want to present your membership card to your pharmacist. Your savings can not be combined with your health plan benefits.
